Full Description

BUILT BETWEEN 1718 AND 1723. WAS REBUILT TO 19 FT WIDTH IN 1767 TO TAKE THE NEWBURY BARGE. 1831 WAS MADE NARROWER TO STANDARDISE TO K&A LOCK SIZE. WAS TURFSIDED, AND UNTIL RECENTLY REMAINED WIDE WITH GWR RAIL AND SLEEPER SIDES. NOV 1952 PADWORTH LOCK GATES COLLAPSED

The name of the lock was Middle Lock until the later 20th century.
