More evidence of a later Roman settlement adjacent to an excavation in the 1930s. Ditches, gullies, pits, postholes and a possible flue or oven were revealed in an evaluation, but no Roman road.

<1> EVALUATION REVEALED A COMPLEX OF PITS, DITCHES AND GULLIES, A CHALK FLOOR AND A POSSIBLE FLUE OR OVEN. POTTERY INCLUDED OXFORD WARE, ALICE HOLT WARE, BB WARE, NEW FOREST WARE AND PIECES OF DRESSEL 20 AMPHORA. COINS AND METAL WERE ALSO RECOVERED, BUT SURPRISINGLY THERE WERE NO CLEARLY IDENTIFIABLE METAL OBJECTS IN THE ASSEMBLAGE. THERE WAS ALSO NO EVIDENCE FOR THE ROMAN ROAD SUPPOSED TO CROSS THIS FIELD.
