Medieval mural tower.
A semi-circular tower base projecting outwards from the city wall (WCM 96109 to S, WCM 96111 to N). There is no documentary or cartographic evidence of this tower {1}. Has a diameter of c.5 metres, increased by three visible chamfered plinth courses, continuing the treatment of the main wall face. Rubble core exposed (consolidated in 1970s) behind the ashlar face.
[note that the stone is of some interest being of a different type (what type?), any significance?]
