Summary

St Mary's chapel, Arundel, was founded in 1415. The N. wall with its original arched doorway still remains, in an excellent state of preservation.{1}{2}{3} The E. wall also seems to survive for a distance of 9m.{4} St Mary's Chapel is now thought to have existed as a lady chapel over St Mary's Gate. The N and E walls of a building visible in the NE corner of the Castle car park have now been identified as part of a building of Holy Trinity Hospital (the Maison Dieu), founded c. 1380, and dissolved 1546. A 14th-15th century doorway is still visible in the N wall, and a blocked door in the east wall. The Maison Dieu was formerly identified with 1961 (qv).{5}{6}
