Summary: | The mint tentatively located at Sidbury is shown on the coins of the moneyer Ciolnoth in the reign of Aethelred II as Sithesteb and on those of Godwine in the same reign as Sidmes. Those of the moneyer Leofwine in the reign of Cnut bear the name Sithesteb. The vast majority of the coins of this time (991-1035) result from the payment of Danegeld and are found in Scandanavia (citing Brooke). |
