HER 3921 DESCRIPTION:- A small barrow, composed of layers of large flat stones interspersed with earth, was destroyed in February 1787 during enclosing of land in the parish of Oddington. The primary burial may have been a cremation as a quantity of ashes were found at the base of the mound. Some six or ten intrusive secondary inhumations of Saxon date were found at ground level, one small skeleton suggesting the presence of a female burial. With these burials were found the iron umbo (boss) of a shield with silver-plated rivets, two iron spearheads, a ring-headed pin, an ear pick, a quantity of beads of stone, glass and amber a disc brooch with incised circles, a saucer brooch with zoomorphic ornament and an iron disc 3" (0.77m) diameter.
