Full description

Near the summit of Hickaton Hill there is an isolated feature consisting of a roughly circular low mound measuring approximately 10 meters by 8 meters and 0.5 meters high. A straight-sided pit has been dug in the very centre measuring approximately 3 meters (north-south) by 1 meter by 0.5 meters deep. This is now rush-filled and appears to be modern (probably 20th century).
The location and appearance of the feature is suggestive of a prehistoric cairn, although it could be resulting upcast from the pit which might date to World War II. There is extensive evidence of turf-cutting in the vicinity.
