Full description

Lower stone of a possibly late prehistoric rotary quern of 'beehive' type. The quern was found some ten years ago in a field above the River Tavy. Now at Kingsett Farm. The coarse-grained granite stone is 31 centimetres diameter by 8.3 centimetres deep with a spindle hole 4 centimetres wide and circa 7 centimetres deep. The underside is rough and undressed with a smooth sloping top surface with some traces of polish.
