Full description

Contemporary records state, "1 Block House. Priest Lane, opp: St. Andrews. Map ref. 0481242". <1>
There is some confusion over this entry. Military Grid Reference 048124 is at the W end of Priests Lane around current NGR TQ 603 936. However, St. Andrews was some half a mile to the E where St. Andrew’s Place now is. Given the road barrier at MGR 047123, (SMR 20256) the map reference is preferred and its current equivalent is given above although no further evidence has been discovered. <2> <3>
In War Time Contraventions 1968, pillboxes are sometimes referred to as blockhouses and it has been assumed that this is so in this case.
