Summary
Pillbox
Full description
Contemporary records state, “3 pillboxes. Hawkwell Hall Farm. Map ref. 306102, 304098, 306095.” (Mil. Ed.) <1>
Nothing recognisable of the pillbox at 306102 can be seen on an aerial photograph taken in May 1946. It probably stood immediately E of the farm buildings or beneath one of the large trees to the NE. In either case it would have been sited, like others in the area, as a protection against paratroop or glider landings on the flat fields around. <2>
Without a more precise siting, the NGR above is the conversion from the wartime Military Grid Reference.
<1> unknown, 1968, War Time Contraventions 1968, Hawkwell (LIST). SEX31436.
<2> RAF, 1946, 106G-UK 1496-3294 (AP). SEX63421.
