Pillbox (destroyed),

Full description

1960’s and 1970’s aerial photographs show the clear shape of an hexagonal pillbox with its entrance on the SW side standing to the SE of the entrance to Oxenham Farm. From this position it would have looked out over open countryside to the N and W and guarded the long approach from Havengore Creek to Shoeburyness and Great Wakering. <1> <2>

It is locally recalled that the pillbox was brick-clad and that although now demolished the base still survives beneath thick blackthorn bushes at the side of the track. <3>
