Summary

Pillbox

Full description

A pillbox is recalled locally as having stood on the N corner of Braintree Road/Chalks Road, 130 yards S of the road barrier at the railway bridge (SMR 20605). This pillbox can be seen on aerial photographs taken in April 1946 and June 1960 although its exact shape cannot be made out. An aerial photograph taken in September 1970 shows it to have been demolished by that date and the site developed into a petrol station forecourt. <1> <2> <3> <4>
