Pillbox (destroyed)

Full description

A plan of the wartime defences along the seafront at Clacton-on-Sea (see SMR 21178) shows a pillbox, annotated ‘K’, on the clifftop walk opposite Connaught Gardens West, 20 yards W of a public shelter. <1>

An aerial photograph taken in July 1941 shows, here, a heavily camouflaged construction totally blocking the path, undoubtedly the pillbox. <2>

An aerial photograph taken in July 1946 shows nothing of the pillbox, it clearly having been demolished and cleared away by that date. <3>
