- SHINE: Medieval Settlement Earthworks, Therfield
Full description
Earthworks, including ditches, platforms and quarry pits, are almost certainly the remains of medieval settlement at Therfield <2>. As OS description, but also some further quarry pits <2>. See also [31317], Saxo-Norman and medieval features to the south.
The strange shape of the earthworks does not suggest house platforms; they may have more to do with the motte and bailey [67], or its probable late Saxon antecedent.
See [22] for the village.
