Full description

The remains of St Ives' Cross, probably a 14th century butter cross, stands at the junction of four roads west of Sutton St James. The surviving elements are four steps, a base and one foot of shaft with three of the four quarter arched supporting feet. It is scheduled. {1}{2}{3}{4}
The base and lowest stone of the shaft remain, supported on a four step polygonal base. The shaft is supported by branching chamfered brackets. It possibly dates to the 16th century in its present form. Its condition is modest; the stones of the base need resetting. {6}
It is rare in having angle brackets. There is a full description in the revised scheduling document 22684. {7}
The cross is also listed and for the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {8}
