Summary

The Round Hills Earthwork, Ingoldsby.

Grid Reference:SK 991 307
Map Sheet:SK93SE
Parish:INGOLDSBY, SOUTH KESTEVEN, LINCOLNSHIRE

Full description

Minor ringwork with bank and outer ditch. There are signs of what may have been an original entrance on the east side. The bank is degraded on the south-west side and the interior has been ploughed. Two worked flints were found at 'one of entrances'. Listed as a univallate hillfort. Scheduled as a camp.
The earthwork encloses 5 acres, and is in a commanding position with good all round visibility. The construction appears too slight to warrant Iron Age classification and has some resemblances to medieval enclosures elsewhere. City and County Museum, Lincoln, records finds of 16th century date and later rubble and stone foundations. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}{6}{7}{8}
