Scatter of Neolithic and Bronze Age finds, found on land to the east of Salmonby.

Full description

Alongside finds of Anglo-Saxon date (see MLI42562), the field to the east of Salmonby known as Sandy Knobbs has also revealed fragments of early Bronze Age Beaker pottery, this to Bronze Age flints. No signs of occupation or burial in this area were noted during the early periods of field walking here, though the remains of a Neolithic long barrow (see MLI43170) and Bronze Age bowl barrow (see MLI43719) have since been noted as cropmarks on aerial photographs of this area. The assemblage included a collared Beaker vessel, the spall from a well polished stone axe along with other axe fragments, various scrapers, cores, a polished flint knife, and a sherd of Mortlake pottery. {1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
