Full description

PRN 45029
The pier which is now associated with Eresby House (PRN 44150) was part of the post medieval Eresby hall. The hall was accidentally destroyed by fire in 1769 and by the 1790s only a few outbuildings and a pair of gate piers survived. At the end of the 18th century, the two gate piers were made into one and topped by a commemorative urn. This single pier was moved from the far end of the avenue. Constructed of red brick and ashlar with a moulded plinth and rolled ashlar angles, cornice, surmounted by twisted and fluted urn with gadrooned lid.
