Full description

PRN 70336
A complete and intact Romano-British, urned cremation burial, adjacent to No. 106 Newland Street West, Lincoln. Recovered by contractors, having fallen from the sides of a sewage pipe trench under construction. The burial was apparently previously undisturbed in a grave cut into the natural terrace sands. The urn contained the cremated remains of a single individual; an adult, probably female, of c.30-45 years of age. No pathological lesions were observed. The cremation pot dates to the mid to late 1st century and, in association with other pottery finds (PRN 70335 and 70337), indicates the presence of a cemetery in the immediate vicinity, potentially in use from the later 1st century until the early to mid 3rd century (PRN 70338) {1} {2}
