Full description

The present Church of St Benedict was built in 1838, to replace an earlier church on the same site. This earlier church is thought to have been one of the two medieval churches recorded in Domesday as being at Candlesby. White described the earlier church as being built of inferior freestone and chalk, and was so much decayed that it was taken down and rebuilt in 1838, at a cost of £700.
The current church was built to the designs of E.D. Rainey of Spilsby, although has some alterations from 1897 by Eley White. It is constructed of a yellow/orange brick laid in Flemish bond, with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. It is comprised of a western tower, nave, chancel and vestry. The two-stage tower has a plinth, string bands, plain parapet and angle pinnacles.
