Full description
PRN 38074
This timber framed shop dates to the 16th century with later alterations. The ground floor has modern shop fronts. The interior retains some of its original timber framing and much of its original roof structure. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
This house was originally jettied, although this has now been underbuilt or cut off. In the early 16th or 17th century the building was altered and a new fireplace added on the first floor. It may have been at this time that the building's height was raised by one storey. It is possible that part of the building encroached onto the churchyard because burials have been found under the east wall. This type of building was often built as a shop with accommodation over. {2}
This building was almost entirely rebuilt during the 1970s using some earlier materials. A jetty on the north side has been preserved. {3}{4}
