This early 19th century archway was the entrance to Blashfield's Terracotta Works and has been re-erected on the present site. It is a large single arch built of coursed stone with a cornice and small pediment. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
This portal was built in 1845 as the entrance to Grant's iron foundry (PRN 36474) and was designed by Bryan Browning and built by Gregory and Tinkler. The site became Blashfield's Terracotta Works in 1858 (PRN 30744). In 1937 the arch was rebuilt several feet to the south and parallel with the road. {2}
A photographic survey of the arch was carried out prior to redevelopment of the site. {3}{4}
