Summary

A hard beaching slope was created on the artificial clay mound using chalk and flint blocks.

Description

A hard beaching slope was created on the artificial clay mound using chalk and flint blocks. Part of it was underwater to allow beaching. There was approximately 27m of such waterfront. At a later date the hard was modified with beech and birch stakes along the top. Stayed in use until the late 13th century.
