Description
Chapel in castle dedicated to St Peter founded in 1328 by Roger Mortimer. The chapel was later used as a courthouse by the Council of the Marches <1>
Chapel described and photographed. It measured 21.5 feet and 52+ feet long. West wall destroyed in C16th, when extended to W and divided into two stories. The upper story was the courthouse, the lower used as record rooms <2>
Stukeley's plan (1721) labels the chapel "the hall of justice" with an adjoining building (next to curtain wall) as "the record room" <3>
