Description

A patent dated Nov 17 1316 permits William ale Mouton to fortify his mansion of Dailileye with a stone wall and to embattle the same <1a>
There are no extant remains of Dawley castle. The earthworks to the north of the published site are a result of modern tipping of waste materials from factories. There is no evidence to connect Castle Pool (SJ 68840615) with Dawley Castle except for its proximity. OS FI 1972 <1b>

During the Civil War the house was garrisoned by Royalists until captured by 1645. By 1762 the site had become a farmstead, and buildings surrounded by the remains of the water-filled moat survived in 1817. All trace of the former house was obliterated in the early C19 by slag heaps from the adjacent Castle furnaces (PRN 03861). <2>
