Description

Lowestoft Porcelain Factory, kilns etc. Began production circa 1757 (on site of brick or pottery kiln/s in existence by 1756), probably closed down circa 1801. "It was the third-longest-lived English soft-paste porcelain factory after Worcester and Derby." See E Gillingwater, An Historical Account of the Ancient Town of Lowestoft (London 1790), 112-3 and (S1). Was recorded by de la Rochefoucauld in 1784 (see N Scarfe, A Frenchman's Year in Suffolk, 1784, SRS 30, 1988, 215-7)(S3).
Later converted into brewery & malt kiln (Morse's Brewery, acquired by Morgan's Brewery Co Ltd in 1937.
In 1950 Windsor & Newton purchased the property and in 1955 demolished most of the surviving remnants and remains of the kiln.
For details of site and pottery see (S1).
