Full Description

LOCK CONSTRUCTED BETWEEN 1718 AND 1723 (PROBABLY CIRCA 1723) HAM MILLS ORIGINALLY A TURFSIDE. WIDENED IN 1767 FOR NEWBURY BARGES, REBUILT ON NARROW WIDTH TO STANDARD K&A CANAL SIZE. WAS UNTIL RECENTLY STILL TURFSIDED WITH GWR RAIL AND SLEEPER SIDES.

This lock is adjacent to Ham Mill but has been called Ham Lock on most historic OS mapping.
