Description

A large bell barrow (NHLE list entry:1013244)<4> and also a probable bowl barrow (not scheduled) northwest of Warren Lodge, Finchampstead. Possible barrow cemetery?

The mound at SU 79206459 (reported by Mr Underhill) is an exceptionally large bell barrow. A large pit in the southern part of the berm has cut into the central mound but otherwise it appears to be undisturbed. At SU 7976449 there is a probable bowl barrow, comprising a slight mound 13.0 m. in diameter and 0.2 m. high, with faint impression of a surrounding ditch. Both features have been surveyed at 1/2500 <5>.
