About the Heritage Gateway
The Heritage Gateway is managed by English Heritage in partnership with ALGAO and IHBC. The website provides access to local and national records on the historic environment including the following resources:
- Records from over 50% of England's Historic Environment Records (HERs)
- All nationally designated historic assets on the National Heritage List for England including listed buildings and scheduled monuments
- The National Records of the Historic Environment (PastScape)
- Historic photographs of England (Viewfinder)
- The NMR Excavation Index
- Information of historic parks, gardens and historic landscapes (Parks & Gardens UK)
Users can cross search all the above resources on the Heritage Gateway. More local and national resources continue to be added to the website on a regular basis.
For a full list of HERs and information about whether they are searchable on the website, visit the Historic Environment Records page.
Coming soon
A new improved map search will be coming to the website soon. Users will be able to search and view results against Ordnance Survey mapping.
The National Trust SMR will be cross-searchable on the Heritage Gateway very soon and more HERs will continue to be added - please check the website regularly if you would like to search these resources.
Some information on designation decisions including not listed decisions and delisted records are expected to be available to search on the website later in 2012.
