Range of information available:
The Southampton HER covers the area inside the boundary of the City of Southampton.  It consists of records for archaeological sites and find spots, and for nationally and locally listed buildings and for registered parks and gardens.  The records are held in a computer database linked to a digital mapping system. We also hold paper sources in the form of archaeological reports, journals, historic maps and photographs.

Initially enquiries should be made by email, fax, post or phone.  HER information is usually supplied either as a paper report, or a digital report in PDF format.  An office visit can then be arranged to consult paper sources; in some cases we may require an office visit. OFFICE VISITS ARE BY APPOINTMENT ONLY.  Unfortunately disabled access is limited, although we will arrange suitable alternative accommodation and will do our utmost to meet your requirements.

There is currently no charge for providing information held in the Southampton HER, although the information may be supplied subject to a licence agreement.

Information correct as at 2 June 2008.
