Full description
Fragments of four quernstones, probably used for milling malt, were found in the bake-house, in an early C14 horizon. Three are of pennant sandstone, from outcrops on the eastern side to the mouth of the Severn. The fourth is similar to Sutton stone, from Bridgend, South Wales (b6, 143-144, and 111-12). Large granite millstones formed hearths in the hall and the kitchen (b6, 108, 112).
