Full description
Partition of the manorial lands of Penhallam had begun in 1330, and by 1428 it was divided into six parcels of land. No doubt the manor house fell out of use at some time during the period of fragmentation. The small farmstead of Bury Court, outside the moat, is the only settlement at the site now. It is first recorded in 1516 (b1). The name presumably refers to the adjacent hillfort of Ashbury. The name Penhallam now applies to a farm three-quarters of a mile to the west (2060).
