Full description

Continuing occupation of Carn Brea hill into the Romano-British period is suggested by finds from excavations on the saddle and around the eastern summit. Thurston Peter found a Roman coin and a brooch in a hut on the eastern summit (prn 18163.54) and claims to have found wheel-made pottery in that area Mercer however interprets the latter as fine Neolithic Hembury ware.
A single sherd of pottery from Mercer's 1970-1973 excavations is thought to be of Romano-British date. Samuels describes this rim sherd as wheel-made, from a jar or dish, and comparable to another from Magor villa (b3).
A silver Denarius of AD 70 and an Iron Age or Roman ring brooch were found together during excavation of a hut circle inside the eastern summit Peter in 1895, who donated it to the RIC museum (b1).
