Full description

Fort Picklecombe was first constructed in 1545 and is shown on a map of 1586 as 'the new bulworke' (6235.1) (b3). It was owned by the Edgcumbe family, and was leased by the Navy until after the second world war. The Edgcumbes have now turned the fort into dwellings. The site is also recorded as AH245 for the Defence of Britain project. It is visible on aerial photos (p1-5) and has been plotted as part of the NMP.
