Full description

There is evidence for an extensive area of Roman - British occupation on the site now built upon by Tintagel castle. Unstratified finds of pottery by Radford dated to the second half of the fourth century and was in sufficiently large quantities to suggests a settlement larger than a single farmstead (h1, b8). Thomas notes a certain amount of Oxford red colour coated wares and fragments of Romano-British imported wares indication occupation in the Roman period (phase one at Tintagel) with strong trading links (b9). The monument was included in the Schedule on 9/10/1981 and the scheduling updated on 18/11/1996.
