Full description
An 'old quarry' is recorded on the 1888 OS 1:2500 map approx 15m east of Bartholomew battery (7906.28). It is a small earthwork scoop approx 8.0m across (b1). The 1907 map showed a circular well within the quarry which was shown as rock-cut and appears to have been partially infilled on the south side (b2). Located so close to Bartholomew battery, it is likely to have provided the stone for it and therefore be C18 in date (b3). The monument was included in the Schedule on 19/3/1998.
