Full description

A map of 1946 showing all WW2 pillboxes records St Mary's number 1 pillbox, at or very close to the Garrison gate (1, 2). No fieldworker has recorded any remains of this site. This site has also been recorded as AH 548 for the Defence of Britain project (3, 4, 5).

The MPPA visited the location in 1998 and could find no trace of the pillbox either on the ground or on available photos and postcards. He speculates that this may have been a gun position manned at the Garrison Gate rather than a pillbox (6).
