Full description
Two lead cisterns now at St Mary's church (7659) were originally placed at Star Castle (7902.01) as part of Tovey's improvements to the Garrison's fortifications (b1). The cisterns are approximately 1.5m by 0.6m by 0.8m deep and have relief decoration incorporating coats of arms, the initials GR, and date 1727. They were removed to Fort Belvedere by the Prince of Wales in 1932, but returned to Scilly by George VI in 1938. A stone-lined pit behind Star Castle (7902.06) may be a dewpond to improve its water supply.
