Full description
A quarry is recorded and labelled on the 1888 OS map on the high plateau (b1). It was named 'old quarry' on the 2nd edition OS 1:2500 of 1907 (b2) and is shown on the most recent OS map with a tennis court inside and the northern half removed (b3). The 1888 map represented the quarry as an irregular kidney shaped excavation, apparently worked both north, east and south west from an opening / entrance in the middle of its long east side. An internal track was shown reaching into the south west corner and a long rectangular building was shown on the southern half of the east side (b1). This building had apparently been removed by 1907 (b2). It is too far from stone built structures to be dated by association.
