Full description
The 1652 Parliamentary Survey of Duchy lands includes in the description of Hugh Hill a number of buildings whose location is now unknown. The structures may have been demolished, or elements may be incorperated into later structures. They are: a fish house "neare the gate now used as a storehouse for the garrison, worth 2s 6d"; two barns and a stable "standing by the side of the said Hugh Hills now imployed for the service of the said Garrison"; and "two smithes shops on the side of the Hugh Hill and neare unto the castle now imployed in the service of the Garrison, one pound".
[Note: These structures were previously recorded separately as MCO31570 (Old PRN 7903.08), MCO31571 (Old PRN 7903.09), and MCO31572 (Old PRN 7903.10), although each was only plotted at a nominal point at the centre of the garrison. These have been consolidated for simplicity and the record numbers reused.]
