Full description

A now lost quarry on the east side of the Hugh was recorded by Troutbeck in 1796 when he stated that Benham Battery (7906.13) was "so called from a large pit or quarry close by, on the opposite side of the road" (b1). Charles Thomas suggested that this may have been on the site of the present Trinity House cottages (b2). Probably the source of stone for the battery, and thus probably Elizabethan in origin (b3).
