Name:ST MAWES - C20 minefield alignment sockets

Summary

At least two alignment mast sockets survive at St Mawes Castle in Battery Field. They comprise cast-iron sockets set in concrete. A lid for one such socket has been located amongst scaffold clips in the St Mawes engine room and transferred to the museum store. The rims of the sockets are punched with alignment numbers in roman numerals corresponding to numbering on a plan of the minefield dating to 1904 held at the Royal Engineers Museum, Chatham.
