Visitor Facilities:
Visitor search area with desk; PC workstation with access to HER database, scanning; extensive library of national and local periodicals, monographs, books and other sources; large aerial photographic collection and other photographs; digital early edition OS maps.

Range of information available:
Records of archaeological and historic finds, monuments (including historic buildings), and landscapes, and recording events including fieldwork reports, mapping and photographs. Designations information. Historic mapping. Geological mapping.

Please note: Access to the HER is free to members of the public during Record Office opening hours. However, when customers visit us, and require assistance from a member of staff to identify the information they need, other than a general introduction, a charge will be made (£17.00 for 30 minutes/ £32.80 per hour). We call this service a 'personal consultation'. If you think you may need assistance using the HER, please ensure you book staff time before you visit, otherwise a staff member may not be available.

If you are not able to visit the HER, or would rather that we carry out the search on your behalf, we are happy to do so (£85 per hour or part hour for standard commercial enquiries or £150 per hour or part hour for priority commercial enquiries/£30 per hour or part hour for non-commercial enquiries). Please note that we have a ten working day turn around.
