The Worcestershire and Worcester Historic Environment Record (HER) is the largest source of information on the historic environment of the County. This resource, which is fully accessible to the public, contains over 30000 records relating to archaeological sites, historic buildings, and historic environment features, from early prehistoric finds to medieval agricultural landscapes and recent industrial structures, and from large-scale excavations to building records and individual stray finds. A county of small towns, nucleated villages, dispersed settlement and varied landscapes, Worcestershire's historic environment is diverse. Notable are the many medieval moated sites, historic parks, timber farm buildings, pioneering 20th century housing development (Redditch New Town), and Second World War remains. The HER is housed in The Hive in Worcester. This is the first integrated University library, City library, Record Office and HER in Europe. The HER has a range of paper and digital unpublished fieldwork reports, together with local journals, digitised maps and plans, publications and 1000s of photographs. This, combined with access to the vast range of sources within The Hive, allows us to deliver a comprehensive service to our customers.
