Summary

Parish church of st. John the baptist. Much restored about 1847 and partly rebuilt. Oliver (monasticon exoniensis) says it was originally dedicated to st. Clement and that a chapel of st. Clement was first mentioned here in 1334, dependent on the mother-church of crediton (hoskins). St. Clement's chapel, kennerleigh, became a perpetual curacy independent of crediton after dissolution and was first presented to as a rectory in 1777 (reichel).

Parish church of st. John the baptist. Much restored about 1847 and partly rebuilt. Oliver (monasticon exoniensis) says it was originally dedicated to st. Clement and that a chapel of st. Parish church. Tower and chancel c14, north aisle c15, all thoroughly renovated 1847-8. Red sandstone, volcanic and mudstone rubble with beerstone, hamstone and red sandstone ashlar detail. Slate roofs. Perpendicular. Low unbuttressed west tower in two stages. See doe list for full details (doe).
