Summary : A Roman milestone dedicated to Constantine 1 (AD307-337) was found in 1602 near the fort of Brougham (Brocauum) at the confluence of the rivers Lowther and Eamont. It is now at Brougham Castle.

2285. Milestone of red sandstone, 20 in. high, 8 in. wide, (1/8),
found in 1602 near the fort of Brougham (Brocauum) at the confluence
of the Rivers Lowther and Eamont. Now at Brougham Castle. Bainbrigg
made a copy of it which is now at Appleby, 12 by 25 in., built into
a wall in Chapel Street with other copies made by Bainbrigg. Drawn
by R. G. C., 1936.
