More information : Milestone seen in 1783 used as a gate-post on the north side of the modern road from Lanchester to Lanchester fort (Longouicium), where Hodgson recorded it in 1807. Before 1820 it was taken to Greenwell Ford, Lanchester, where Surtees saw it. Now lost. Huebner wrongly thought this meant the village of Ford, near Sunderland, and quoted Surtees's reading as if it referred to a different inscription. Sought in vain in 1937 by Mr. (now Dr.) K. A. Steer. Reproduced from Hutchinson. [D(omino)] N(ostro) Imp(eratori) M(arco) Ant(onio) Gordiano Pio Felici Aug(usto) 'For our Lord the Emperor Marcus Antonius Gordianus Pius Felix Augustus.' 1-5.
