Hob Uid: 1044461
Location :
Suffolk
Mid Suffolk, East Suffolk
Winston, Earl Soham, Framlingham, Saxtead, Peasenhall, Dennington, Pettaugh, Badingham, Ashfield cum Thorpe, Framsden, Coddenham, Cretingham, Crowfield
Grid Ref : TM3520069200
Summary : Probable Roman road alignment running from Baylham to Peasenhall followed in some stretches by modern roads with an eastern termination probably near Yoxford which may be equated with the documented town of Sitomagus.
More information : The modern road pattern of long interrupted alignments clearly identifies this route as Roman, and there are also a few pieces of structural evidence. Its eastern termination awaits the discovery of the documented Roman town of Sitomagus, which is presumed to be somewhere near Yoxford. [See OS Linear Archive for bibliography, 1940's air photo coverage, and field investigations from 1970, 1974, 1976, 1977 and 1979]. (1)
