Summary : A Second World War bombing decoy at Potter Hanworth, which was built to deflect enemy bombing from Royal Air Force Waddington airfield. This was a 'Q-type' decoy that displayed a series of lights simulating an active airfield. It is referenced as being operational between June 1940 and August 1942. After the war the site was given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. Further bombing decoy sites for Royal Air Force Waddington were located at Branston Fen and Gautby. |
More information : A Second World War 'Q-type' bombing decoy located at Potter Hanworth (TF 079 667). This decoy was constructed to deflect enemy night bombing from RAF Waddington. It was in operation between 19-JUN-1940 to 12-AUG-1942. Further decoy sites for Waddington were located at Branston Fen (TF 078 693) and Gautby (TF 170 714). (1)
Aerial photography shows that by 1946 the decoy site had been given over to agricultural use and no features of the decoy survive. (2)
