More information : The present entrance to the castle is through the S. wall of the former King's Lodging, built in 1631-5 on the site of the former hall. (1)
The range in the SE corner contains two chambers with fine fireplaces on the upper floor, and two vaulted chambers below; the ceilings now gone. The entrance gateway is a 17th century addition. Between the range and the custodian's house is the site of a 17th cent. timbered hall, built against the outer wall which was pierced by rectangular windows for it. The custodian's house appears to have been reconstructed in the 17th or 18th centuries. (2)
The range is situated at SK 20922912, and is as described above. (3) |
